Lying here in silence,
street lamp’s white light coming in
through the lush branches of an oak tree
right outside the window, teasing me…
Come dance with me, it says.
The warm summer breeze
collides with the movement of air
from the fan at my feet
…like an ocean wave crashing into shore;
a re-awakening
to what I had always known.
The blades spin at medium speed;
its soothing white noise
competing with the sound of crickets,
and I think of the sea…
An occasional car passes by,
and a mosaic of moments past
comes flooding in.
It sounds and smells like summer…
I think of my children
and their innocence
steadily eroding,
and I am simultaneously a mother, a teenager and a child.
I hear faint music
from a stage of my childhood,
and revisit daydreams
that I would return to again and again over the years.
And I wonder
if I will ever feel the merging of my soul
with the soul of another,
in and out of body,
unrestricted and timeless…
Beyond admiration, infatuation, lust
…to the true dissolution of boundaries
into a boundless field of unified energy
where two really do become one.
Profound understanding that transcends knowledge;
a spiritual connection that is love in its purest form.
How I long to love like that!
How I long to feel loved like that…
I feel my eyes getting heavy
as the sounds get fainter and fainter,
and the soft breeze caresses my face
as a hand of a lover
lulling me to sleep.
